Cultivating the Creative Process: Writing The Secrets of Magic and Metaphysics.

When my husband passed over about 21 years ago, I took a writing course as therapy to help me cope with the grief. This was a very beneficial thing for me for me to do because I was able to work though my own emotional blockages as I developed the characters for the book. It proved to be most interesting as it also stimulated many unusual dreams and visionary experiences.

These were not the normal type of dream that is hardly remembered the next day; they were quite vivid for dreams, or even experiences, on a different level of consciousness. I kept a journal of these experiences. From this journal, bits and pieces of a story began to develop.  I continued to make notes of what I saw and heard. A lot of this information I have included in this current book. It was almost as if the book wrote itself. I believe I was guided by spiritual beings who gave me the information and I then compiled it into the novel that I have today.

Initially I did not have any romance in the book – it was straight metaphysics; but a friend told me that it would not sell without some sort of romantic subtext. My heart sank at these words, because it meant that I had to create extra characters and weave another story through the book to make it more interesting as a novel. I had not written a novel before; prior to that I had only written about straight metaphysics in the form of study guides.

Creating a story this way was a very interesting thing to do and I didn’t have any trouble; the characters seemed to fit in somehow. I’m sure I was still being guided by spiritual beings at that stage.

After I had made the rough draft, I put the manuscript away in a bottom drawer and forgot about it for about 10 years or so. It survived two house moves and when I was unpacking some boxes a couple of years after moving to my final destination, I rediscovered the manuscript.

After reading through it, I knew I had something special, because there was no way I could have written some of the information contained in the writing without meditative assistance from spiritual beings. At that stage I didn’t know a great deal about some of the concepts mentioned. So I give all credit to those wonderful beings who assisted me to write so others could be informed of something deeply spiritual; something that might help others to understand why they go through certain experiences and how to help themselves.

Because I had set up my own business and was constantly updating the information for the various courses on meditation and healing that I was teaching, I gave scant thought to the manuscript. It was after a friend read through the material and suggested getting it published, that I thought I’d better do something about it.

The basic story is essentially the same as the one I had completed many years ago. I tidied it up, adding pieces of information here and there and making certain deletions. The editing team at Balboa Press gave me excellent advice in this area, and then one day it was ready for publication.

I encourage you to pick up a copy of my book, The Secrets of Magic and Metaphysics. It is available through the Balboa Press bookstore, Amazon.com and Barnesandnoble.com

  1. Hello Lyn,

I hope the book sells well and touches many lives. It is funny how many spiritual writers have books in cupboards and wardrobes and then all of a sudden the time comes when they are published. My own book The 33rd Sage sat in my wardrobe for almost fifteen years before it decided it was time to published.

    Good luck

    • Hello Geof,

Thank you so much for taking the time to comment on my novel. I had a peek at the page about your book and it looks a really good read. I guess you came to the same conclusion as me—that it is much better to educate others through allegory and story telling rather than some dry old workbook. I hope your book sells well also; it sounds like a wonderful message for this time on the planet.

      Many blessings,
      Lyn
